Project Update: February 2020

Project Update: February 2020

The Llangors Community Shop Project is progressing well. We now have agreed a legal structure under which we can operate which is a Community Benefit Society (CBS) and positions on the Management Committee have been formalised. These positions will be up for election at the first AGM.

Although we desperately wanted to open the community shop by early summer 2020, we underestimated the practicalities of achieving this and so realistically we intend to be ready for business towards the end of the year. Hurray!

Our planning application has been submitted and now has been validated by the National Parks Planning Department. Hopefully a decision will be made by April 2020. We are also working hard with the Llangors Youth and Community Centre to come to an agreement regarding the lease. This process however is dependent on firstly gaining agreement for a lease for the new play park site. We are hoping this issue will be resolved shortly as the play park is another very important project for the community which we support wholeheartedly.

Since December we have had several constructive and positive meetings with two funding agencies; the National Lottery and the National Park. Our project appears to meet their criteria and once the lease and the planning permission are in place, we can start the process of formally applying for funding. As mentioned before, we are also preparing to set up another funding stream. We will shortly be introducing our Share Issue Scheme. Details of this will be presented to the community shortly.

Unfortunately, we are currently playing the waiting game and are dependent on other bodies to give us the go ahead to set up the community shop. However, in the meantime, the Management Committee are busy working on an Integrated Action Plan setting up processes and procedures ensuring that we comply with legal issues and developing training programmes and guidelines for volunteers.

Many thanks for your continued support and patience.
