The Llangors Community Shop is supporting the community thanks to National Lottery funding
The Llangors Community Shop project is helping the local community during this challenging time thanks to the support of National Lottery players by establishing a local convenience store staffed largely by volunteers. It will be located next to the Youth and Community Centre in Llangors village and will open in summer 2021. Shares in the Community Benefit Society set up to own and run the shop will be offered for sale to members of the community. The community shop will enable Llangors residents to access retail goods and services without using a car and provide a shorter travelling distance for the wider local community. Equally important it will provide a community focus which is available from early morning until early evening on most days per week and provide training and work experience for all ages and abilities. The Llangors Community Shop Management Committee successfully applied for close to £100,000 from The National Lottery Community Fund. Mark Kerr is the Chairman of the Management Committee of Llangors Community Shop. He had this to say about the grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to the Llangors Community Shop project:”The shop committee in Llangors has been working for over two years to bring about a community-run convenience store and small café which would meet the needs of the people who live around Llangors Lake. There has not been a shop of this character in the area for many years, and the lack is sorely felt. We are now nearing completion and this has only been made possible by a generous grant from the National Lottery Community Fund, which will enable us to erect premises and start trading by the end of the summer. We believe this grant, which goes right to the heart of the community, will greatly strengthen the social fabric of Llangors and neighbouring villages and settlements. As a committee, we would like to express our warmest thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting this exciting venture.”
